SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Panera Bread is hosting a set of fundraisers for a girl who was told by an employee to take off her squeaky orthopedic shoes because they were bothering a customer in a coastal Georgia restaurant.

WTOC-TV (https://bit.ly/1c49IZm ) reports 2-year-old Emma Duke was with her mother earlier this month when an employee told her to take her shoes off.

The girl’s mother, Catherine Duke, says Emma has an undiagnosed developmental disorder and the family is faced with mounting bills as they continue tests to try determining what the disorder may be.

Panera Bread officials have apologized for the incident and say the company is hosting a bake sale, yard sale and raffle Jan. 25 at the Isle of Hope Baptist Church. Officials say they’re also planning a second fundraiser in February.
