ARGYLE, Texas (AP) - A North Texas school district has decided to arm some of its employees with firearms and authorize them to use force if necessary to protect students.
The Denton Record-Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1muRNMA ) reports the Argyle school board has adopted a policy to arms some employees on district property, at some district-sanctioned events and at board meetings.
The board approved the policy Tuesday night by a 7-0 vote. Superintendent Telena Wright said the employees to be armed will not be identified.
Those chosen to participate will be put through what a district statement calls “a rigorous interview process, a complete psychological evaluation and a comprehensive firearms and emergency training course” before they will be armed.
