MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - After nearly a year of negotiations, Medford, Ore., teachers have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.
Leaders of the Medford Education Association announced the vote results Thursday evening. About 95 percent of the union’s 600 members were present for the vote.
The Medford Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/lEXOc9 ) that the strike vote means teachers could walk off their jobs after giving 10 days’ notice, but when that notice will be given has not been announced.
Negotiations are set to resume Friday.
The teachers and the school district haven’t agreed on salary levels. They’re also divided on other issues, including pension contributions, early retirement and teacher preparation time.
The district implemented a contract on Dec. 20.
