SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - People with a stake in the continuing cleanup of Onondaga Lake are awaiting details of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plans for a major project along the shores of what was once one of the nation’s most polluted waterways.
While unveiling his state budget proposal Tuesday in Albany, the governor said his spending plan includes $30 million for a project along Onondaga Lake. Cuomo offered no more details, but WSTM-TV in Syracuse reports that Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney said Wednesday that the project involves the village of Solvay, on the lake’s southeastern shore.
She says more details will be revealed within a week. Other local officials tell local media outlets that they haven’t been given details of the project Cuomo is proposing.
A court-ordered, $450 million cleanup continues for Onondaga Lake.
