RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The National Weather Service is warning of icy spots on roads in northeastern North Carolina.

The weather service office in Raleigh said that icy conditions were possible in Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount and Wilson early Thursday.

The weather service said black ice could appear especially on bridges, overpasses and secondary roads.

A wind chill advisory was in effect around Boone. Wind chills were expected to be as low as 17 below zero.

Low temperatures early Thursday ranged from 9 degrees in Elizabeth City to 29 at Piney Island in Carteret County.
