DENVER (AP) - Gov. John Hickenlooper says Colorado’s oil and gas industry is doing a better job working with state officials to make drilling safer.

The Democratic governor touted his administration’s work on new air-quality rules for the industry.

He said the industry is starting to “rebuild the trust” with the public.

Hickenlooper also talked up the state’s booming economy during a luncheon Thursday for the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry.

Hickenlooper said Colorado is very attractive to young entrepreneurs. But he joked that the influx of young people has surprising consequences.

Hickenlooper said the 2012 marijuana legalization vote was “a consequence of having all these young people.” The crowd of several hundred laughed.
