WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida auction house says an archive of fashion sketches that included work by a young Karl Lagerfeld sold for more than half a million dollars.

Lagerfeld is a fashion legend now, but in the 1960s he was a hired hand for the House of Tiziani in Rome. An archive of Tiziani designs was auctioned Jan. 11 at Palm Beach Modern Auctions.

Auctioneer and co-owner Rico Baca says art collectors and museums joined fashion lovers at the sale. Almost 700 bidders vied for 487 items. Baca says the entire lot sold for $545,165.

A Lagerfeld sketch for a design intended for Elizabeth Taylor sold for $2,520. The Lagerfeld design that fetched the highest price was a signed sketch for a two-piece woman’s suit. That sketch sold for $4,500.
