LONDON (AP) - Chelsea struck a deal with Swiss club FC Basel to sign midfielder Mohamed Salah on Thursday.
The Egypt international’s move is subject to him agreeing to personal terms and completing a medical.
The 21-year-old Salah will become Chelsea’s third signing of the January transfer window, following Bertrand Traore and Nemanja Matic.
Chelsea made its move for the attacking midfielder after he impressed with three goals in Basel’s four recent matches against the London club. He netted in each of Basel’s shock wins over Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.
Salah is heading to Chelsea as Juan Mata is on his way out of Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United looking to wrap up a deal for the Spain midfielder.
