BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A Raleigh County woman has been sentenced in the death of her 2-year-old son and the beating of his twin brother.
Media outlets report that 28-year-old Brandy Smallwood of Fairdale pleaded guilty Tuesday to two child neglect counts. Circuit Judge John A. Hutchison sentenced her to two to 13 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Smallwood left her twins, Graydon and Ezekiel, with her husband while she left the home to pay a drug dealer in February 2013.
Smallwood’s husband, 24-year-old James Travis Green of Fairdale, pleaded guilty earlier to fatally beating Graydon and injuring Ezekiel. He is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
