SOUTH HERO, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal accident in which a pickup truck driver rear-ended a car before traveling over 250 feet down an embankment.

Police said pickup driver 63-year-old Daniel Harris of South Hero died at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 8 p.m. Tuesday off of U.S. Route 2 in town.

Police said Harris had been traveling north on Route 2 when his vehicle for unknown reasons rear-ended the car as it was turning left. Harris’ car left the road and went through a grassy area into a patch of low-hanging trees.

The car driver, 57-year-old Dawn Bugbee of Colchester, was not hurt.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. Police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
