JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Gov. Sean Parnell honored the service and the courage of the Alaska National Guard members Wednesday night during his State of the State address in Juneau.
Parnell said two people were rescued by the guard last July when a small plane crashed near Talkeetna.
He says their rescues represented the 2,000th lives saved by the Alaska Air National Guard in nearly 20 years.
The governor says Alaskans honor the service and courage of the National Guard, just as they honor first responders and military members.
