WASHINGTON (AP) - A military judge is ordering the release of unaired portions of interviews CBS and CNN did with a woman at the center of a sexual assault case that involved three U.S. Naval Academy football players.
Attorneys for the one former player currently facing charges in the case requested the footage, arguing it is relevant to preparation for his March trial. The networks’ lawyers argued in court last week, however, that the footage is irrelevant and duplicates already available material. They said their clients shouldn’t have to turn over material gathered in the course of reporting.
Prosecutors initially accused three Naval Academy students of sexually assaulting a female student in 2012 at an off-campus house in Annapolis, Md., where the school is located. Only one man currently faces charges.
