PHOENIX (AP) - Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson took an aerial tour of the southern Arizona border on Wednesday.

Johnson visited Douglas and Tucson a day after meeting with officials along the border in Texas.

In Tucson, Johnson met with state and local law enforcement officials and received briefings on efforts to secure the border at the Tucson Sector headquarters of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

In Douglas, Johnson met with Douglas Mayor Danny Ortega and Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller along with local ranchers and landowners.

Johnson underscored the department’s commitment to working with local communities to ensure the security of the Southwest border.

He spoke in Texas on Tuesday about the surge of immigrants from countries other than Mexico crossing the border illegally.
