DETROIT (AP) - The General Motors Foundation has announced a $1 million grant to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The charitable arm of Detroit-based General Motors said Wednesday that it presented the gift to the museum at the Washington Auto Show.

The museum is under construction on a five-acre site on the National Mall next to the Washington Monument. It’s scheduled to open in 2015.

The foundation says it has given $11 million to the Smithsonian since 1998.
