ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - In a story Jan. 19 about Abbeville County’s tax assessor, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the county manager said tax assessor Bobby Gladden had been fired. County Manager Bruce Cooley said Gladden no longer worked for the county but did not give a reason for his departure, not that Gladden was fired.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Abbeville County tax assessor no longer employed

Abbeville County tax assessor no longer employed; county manager won’t say why

ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Abbeville County Manager Bruce Cooley says the county’s tax assessor is no longer working for the county.

Cooley told The Index-Journal of Greenwood that Tax Assessor Bobby Gladden ended his employment on Jan. 2. But Cooley said he can’t give the reasons because it is a personnel matter.

Gladden told the newspaper he can’t talk about what happened, either. Gladden worked for Abbeville County for about seven years.

The newspaper says it has filed a public records request under the Freedom of Information Act for Gladden’s personnel records.
