WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - Democrats in Woonsocket have settled a three-way race for a seat in the legislature in the first election in Rhode Island that required voters to show photo identification at the polls.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1mqCrso) Michael Morin defeated two other Democrats in Tuesday’s special primary election in House District 49.

According to unofficial results, Morin gathered 344 votes. Douglas Brown was second with 307 votes and Mark Chenot had 7.

The general election is Feb. 25. No Republicans are running.

The House seat was left vacant when former Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt was elected mayor.

Voters had to present a driver’s license, college ID, passport or another type of government ID.

The voter ID law was passed in 2011 but until this year voters could present non-photo identification.
