SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club could be suspended from the national environmental group over internal conflicts and management problems.
U-T San Diego (https://bit.ly/LzAuhM ) cites a letter from national officials that says ongoing strife has led to the resignation of key local staff, volunteer leaders and activists.
Sierra Club president David Scott said in the letter that despite repeated intervention from the national board, the local executive committee’s problems have reached a “critical point.”
Both Scott and local leaders declined to elaborate about the San Diego chapter’s troubles.
The newspaper says the Sierra Club’s national board has scheduled a vote next month on whether to suspend the San Diego chapter for four years - a step taken only a handful of times since the organization was founded in 1892.
