OKLAHOMA CITY — Several prominent Oklahoma Democrats are taking their names out of the running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the resignation of Republican Sen. Tom Coburn.
Former U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, former Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and longtime Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby each told The Associated Press they have no plans to run for the seat.
Boren was the last Democrat to serve in Oklahoma’s congressional delegation. He decided not to seek re-election to his U.S. House in 2012 and currently works for the Chickasaw Nation.
Former Gov. Brad Henry and former Attorney General Drew Edmondson — both Democrats — did not immediately return telephone messages from the AP.
Former Democratic state Sen. Kenneth Corn of Poteau said he is considering entering the race.
