HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Metro-North Railroad says it’s reducing evening service in response to a worsening snow storm.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced on Tuesday that 15 trains on the New Haven line, where the greatest snow accumulations are expected, will be combined or canceled after 8 p.m.
MTA says reducing the number of trains will prevent trains from becoming stranded in accumulated snow and allow personnel to focus resources on trains that continue to operate.
At rush hour, Metro-North will run a regular outbound evening rush hour schedule. Metro-North workers will count the number of passengers aboard all trains. If trains get too crowded, Metro-North says it will add cars.
The Long Island Railroad also will reduce service after 8 p.m. if snow accumulations reach 10 to 13 inches.
