Organizers of the March for Life are considering whether to cancel the 41st annual event on Wednesday because of snow and Arctic temperatures.
As of early Tuesday afternoon, the march was still planned to occur as scheduled. March spokeswoman Diana Banister said organizers “will make the call closer” to event, adding that “the program may be shortened because of the cold.”
National Weather Service officials said the D.C. area could get a half-foot of snow between Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by below-freezing temperatures and a wind chill that feels like the air temperature is in the single digits.
The March for Life is scheduled to begin mid-day Wednesday with a rally on the Mall and then a march to the steps of the Supreme Court building.
March officials posted an image to the event’s Twitter account of a line of people standing along a sidewalk during a snowstorm, with the caption “Snow won’t stop us - we will always #marchforlife.”
The caption on the Tweet stated “We march because 56 million Americans never had a chance to experience snow.”
The aarch first stepped off in 1973 in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s legalization of abortion.
