PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island labor department is beginning to mail tax forms to those who collect unemployment benefits, but officials say the information is also available for immediate download.

The state Department of Labor and Training said Tuesday that those collecting unemployment don’t have to wait to receive their 1099-G tax forms. They can be downloaded and printed from the department’s home page at dlt.ri.gov.

The department plans to mail the 1099 forms to some 56,000 people who collected unemployment benefits in Rhode Island last year, so those who download the information may also get a hard copy.

Unemployment benefits are taxable. Anyone who received the benefits last year must declare them on their 2013 tax returns.
