FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Fairfax County students and teachers are getting a snow day, but school officials say they’ll be making it up next month.

The Washington Post reports (https://wapo.st/1aGXC7F ) that Tuesday’s snowstorm closed schools in Fairfax County, but students will be in class on Feb. 17 instead of taking their usual Presidents’ Day holiday.

It’s the fourth day of classes Fairfax canceled this school year. Virginia law requires classes be held 180 days each year at public schools and the school system includes three extra days in the academic calendar for inclement weather.

Many school systems in the Washington region closed Tuesday because of the storm that was forecast to dump several inches of snow. Also, many students in the region were already scheduled to be off Tuesday for a professional day.
