PHOENIX (AP) - The Phoenix mayor plans to host a public Super Bowl party in preparation for the big event coming to Arizona next year.

KTAR-FM reports (https://bit.ly/1bc7KlC) that Mayor Greg Stanton is hoping to drum up excitement for the 2015 Super Bowl by having an outdoor viewing event at the Hotel Palomar in Phoenix.

This year’s Super Bowl takes place Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home turf of the New York Jets and New York Giants.

Next year’s Super Bowl will be played at the Arizona Cardinals’ home stadium in Glendale, which is west of central Phoenix.

Stanton says national media may spotlight the city when talk of next year’s game comes up.

He says the weather will definitely be better than on the East Coast.
