BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The daughter of baseball great Jackie Robinson shared memories of her father at a special tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela in Vermont.
Sharon Robinson was the keynote speaker at the event at the Unitarian Church in Burlington on Sunday.
She said while much has been written about her father’s 10-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he should be remembered for his ongoing fight for equal rights both in the baseball world and the world outside. He was the 1947 Rookie of the Year and the 1949 Most Valuable Player for the National League.
Sharon Robinson said her father hated injustice of any kind.
She encouraged participants to continue their work toward diversity as they remember King.
