ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Indianapolis won the $75,000 San Pedro Stakes by 4¼ lengths at Santa Anita on Monday, putting the colt on the Kentucky Derby trail.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Indianapolis ran six furlongs in 1:08.80 and paid $3.20 and $2.10 as the 3-5 favorite.

Papa Turf returned $2.80, while Beach Hut was another 2¾ lengths back in third. There was no show wagering because of the four-horse field.

Indianapolis is undefeated in two sprint starts, and Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said the colt would run in a stakes race next.

“We’ve always thought that he has that superstar status and he showed it today,” Baffert said. “From here on out, hopefully up to the first Saturday in May, we’ll put him on a schedule that will stretch him out and hopefully we’ll win some big races. Keeping him healthy and happy, that’s all we can really do.”

Beach Hut is also trained by Baffert.
