Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who made worldwide headlines when he admitted smoking crack cocaine and blamed it on a “drunken stupor,” is making good on his oft-repeated vow to run again in October.
The conservative firebrand was first in line Thursday to file his re-election paperwork at the city municipal center, the Associated Press reported.
Mr. Ford who recently secured a radio gig at a D.C. sports station, admitted his drug use in October after authorities produced a video of him appearing to use a crack pipe. Despite political pressure for him to resign and the City Council stripping him of the bulk of his mayoral powers, he refused to leave office and has maintained his popularity among some voters in recent months.
The election date is Oct. 27.
