Ariel Sharon, the former prime minister of Israel, is in critical condition in the hospital and doctors on Thursday said he could die at any moment.
Dr. Zeev Rotstein of Tel Hashomer hospital said that the functioning of Mr. Sharon’s “several essential organs” has declined, compromising his health and life, The Associated Press reported.
While he didn’t elaborate, he did specify that Mr. Sharon’s condition was considered “critical” and that his “life is in danger,” AP reported. Meanwhile, the former leader’s family have flocked to his bedside.
Mr. Sharon, 85, has been in a coma since 2006, when a massive stroke left him incapacitated, unable to continue his political career.
He served as prime minister since 2001 and was generally considered a hard-liner on the Palestinian matter — quite controversial to some.
