SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police say detectives fired shots at a gun-wielding man who was fleeing the scene of an altercation.

Authorities said the officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday morning when detectives observed an altercation downtown involving one man brandishing a handgun. The man fled when officers approached.

The Seattle Police Department said detectives chased and shot the suspect, striking the man at least once in the buttocks. Authorities eventually found the man hiding underneath a parked car, took him into custody and later transported him to the hospital. No officers were injured during the incident, and Seattle police didn’t immediately say whether the man had ever threatened officers with the weapon.
