BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The new director at the Burlington Animal Shelter says her employees made a mistake when they euthanized a dog a family planned to adopt.

Burlington Animal Services Director Jessica Arias told The Times-News of Burlington (https://bit.ly/1eKv8Jl ) that the employee that talked to the family didn’t properly file the contact information.

Arias was hired last month as Burlington’s first Animal Services director. She says she is dealing with the employee and reviewing all the shelter’s policies and procedures.

The family found the pit bull mix on Jan. 6, and animal services picked up the dog after it left their yard Jan. 9. The family told the shelter they were going to adopt the dog, but the word never got to all employees at the shelter.
