WASHINGTON (AP) - Thirty-eight people showed up to try out to be one of the Washington Nationals’ racing presidents mascots.
Radio station WTOP-FM (https://bit.ly/1dGLdlf ) reports the tryouts were held Saturday at Nationals Park. Candidates were interviewed and had to show their celebration dance and how they’d pose in costume.
The team’s costumed presidents have raced against one another in the fourth inning since 2006. The team’s mascots started out as the four presidents found on Mount Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. One more president, William Howard Taft, joined the group in 2013.
The team will pick 15 to 25 men and women to portray the presidents. Candidates will find out in a few weeks whether they made the squad.
