SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - More students than ever are applying for undergraduate admission at the University of California and California State University systems.
The UC system reported Friday more than 183,000 students applied to at least one of its nine undergraduate campuses for this coming fall. The 4.9 percent increase marked the 10th consecutive year of rising application numbers.
The increase was driven by a sharp jump in applications from out-of-state and international students. The number of California freshman applications only rose 0.6 percent.
The largest number of applications came from Chicano-Latino students, who made up 32.7 percent of California freshman applicants.
Earlier this week, the CSU system reported that a record 284,000 students applied to at least one of its 23 campuses for fall 2014.
