CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A private funeral service is being held Saturday for a Wyoming Army National Guard pilot who died in Afghanistan last week.

Twenty-seven-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 3 Andrew McAdams was one of three people who died Friday at Bagram Airfield after the reconnaissance plane they were on crashed. He was awarded a Bronze Star after his death.

McAdams is a 2004 graduate of Cheyenne’s East High and leaves a wife and a three-month-old daughter. His mother, father and brother live in Cheyenne. McAdams enlisted in the Guard’s Blackhawk unit while still in high school.

The National Guard says his family wants to grieve in private but a public celebration of his life will be held later.

The crash is being investigated.
