SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The state Department of Transportation has opened a Syracuse office where the public can get information on a reconstruction project on Interstate 81.

DOT officials announced this week that the outreach center will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

The state is gathering public opinion regarding the proposals for the aging stretch of I-81 that runs through downtown Syracuse.

Visitors will have access to comment forms, and a computer will be provided so visitors can submit comments online. The office will also be used for meetings on the project.

The plans include rebuilding the highway or tearing down the elevated portion and turning it into a boulevard with stop lights and cross streets.
