LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) - A motorist convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the death of a Union County employee who was filling a pothole has been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.

The La Grande Observer newspaper reports (https://is.gd/kuvS9D ) that Harold “J.R.” Fruitts must also pay a $10,000 fine and his driver’s license has been permanently revoked.

The Elgin man testified during his trial that he was adjusting the stereo in his Ford Bronco before the February 2012 crash that killed public works employee Johnny Rysdam.
