PHOENIX (AP) - Federal land regulators have approved letting part of a 38-mile-long service transmission line be built on land in Maricopa County.
The Bureau of Land Management says it is granting a right-of-way on federal land in the northern part of the county for the Arizona Public Service Company project.
APS is planning an overhead transmission line from the Morgan Substation near Peoria to the planned Sun Valley Substation near Buckeye.
Officials say 9 miles of that line would be on BLM-managed land.
The majority of the line would be constructed with permission from the Arizona State Land Department as well as other landowners.
The Sierra Club protested the plans previously.
The BLM says the issues the group raised were adequately addressed in a final environmental impact statement last July.
