ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A 49-year-old upstate New York man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for bilking his former employer out of $3.2 million dollars.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Craig Matuzak (muh-TOO’-zak) of Gansevoort in Saratoga County was also sentenced this week in federal court in Albany to three years supervised release. He was also ordered to repay the funds he stole from Velocitel Inc., pay nearly $430,000 to the IRS and forfeit his home and vehicles.

Matuzak pleaded guilty in August 2012 to mail fraud and filing a false income tax return. He admitted that he and an independent contractor for Velocitel defrauded the company by billing it for services that were never provided.

Irvine, Calif.-based Velocitel is a wireless network services company with an office in East Syracuse.
