LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The administrative agency of the Michigan Supreme Court is warning people about a possible email scam that sounds official.

The State Court Administrative Office says Friday that the email notice states that the recipient is accused of “illegal software use” or other offenses. They instruct the recipient to download an attached “complaint” or click on a website link.

The court says the aim is to get a virus or malware onto a computer. The court says such attachments shouldn’t be opened and such links shouldn’t be clicked.

State Court Administrator John A. Hohman Jr. says the scam has appeared in some others states. It hasn’t yet been reported in Michigan.

The court says anyone who is contacted about such a possible scam should get in touch with law enforcement.
