ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway is pleading with a judge to reduce her prison sentence for fraud or at least put her on home detention for six months.
Hathaway’s request was filed electronically Friday with the Ann Arbor federal judge who sent her to prison for 366 days. She has spent five months at a West Virginia federal prison.
Hathaway pleaded guilty to bank fraud for shifting properties and failing to disclose assets while trying to dump her Detroit-area home in a short sale. She quit the Supreme Court a few days after the charge was filed.
Hathaway says she’s earned 14 certificates and has maintained good conduct. The certificates include achievement in “sweating to the oldies” and “brisk walking.”
Prosecutors declined to comment.
