SEEFELD, Austria (AP) - Eric Frenzel of Germany won a Nordic combined World Cup on Friday for his fourth victory of the season and 13th overall.
Frenzel was second after the ski jump and finished the 5-kilometer cross-country sprint in 12 minutes, 37.4 seconds.
Magnus Moan of Norway, who started the cross-country in 12th, was the fastest skier and finished 8.4 seconds behind Frenzel in second. Tino Edelmann of Germany trailed by another second in third.
“It’s been a good day,” Frenzel said. “My jump went well and I skied my own race. I lost some time (to Moan) but I am really pleased with this victory.”
Haavard Klemetsen of Norway led after the jump but dropped to fourth after posting the 48th best time in the cross-country.
Defending overall champion Frenzel extended his lead in the standings. The German has 503 points, followed by 2010 Olympic gold medalist and former overall champion Jason Lamy Chappuis of France with 376, and Akito Watabe of Japan with 373.
Lamy Chappuis finished 27.7 seconds behind in ninth, while Watabe came seventh, 26.0 off the lead.
The competition on Friday was the first of the Nordic Combined Triple, a new format which adds the results of all three competitions this weekend with the overall winner earning double World Cup points.
