CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s newest state Supreme Court justice has been honored at a ceremonial swearing-in attended by Gov. Chris Christie and current members of the state’s top court.
Justice Faustino Fernandez-Vina prefers to be known as “Fuzzy.”
Christie says he realizes the work of a judge is exalted but does not believe Fernandez-Vina feels he is exalted himself.
He was officially sworn in in a private ceremony after he was confirmed by the state Senate earlier this month.
The 61-year-old Cuban-American Republican from Camden County is the only Hispanic on the court currently, but not the first.
Two other Christie Supreme Court nominees have stalled, while two others were rejected by Democrats who control the Senate. Senior appellate court judges have been called up temporarily to fill gaps on the court.
