SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) - A school district official in Spokane Valley, Wash., says a substitute teacher was removed from his sixth grade classroom after a student reported the teacher had “lost control” and was putting his hands on students.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://is.gd/XAvdZ4) that East Valley School District Assistant Superintendent Tom Gresch says the Trent Elementary principal “immediately went down there and removed the teacher” Thursday afternoon.

Spokane County sheriff’s officers are investigating. The teacher was not identified. School and law enforcement officials offered few details of the alleged behavior.

A sixth grade student went to the school office to report the problem.

Gresch says a counselor and Principal Frank Brou talked to as many students as possible and a letter was sent home to parents. It asks any students who were “treated inappropriately” to write down their recollections and bring the information to school Friday.

The district official says school staffers have to pass background checks.
