The 39-year-old grandson of late South African leader Nelson Mandela has been charged with assault after reportedly assaulting a teacher and pointing a firearm at him in a road rage incident late last year.
Mandla Mandela, known as Chief Zwelivelile, is accused of brandishing a weapon after a man crashed a car into a vehicle driven by one of Mr. Mandela’s friends in South Africa in October, according to a senior prosecutor in Mthatha, CNN reported.
Mr. Mandela, chief of the Traditional Council in Mvezo, was charged with serious assault, or assault with intent to do grievously bodily harm, and pointing a firearm, South African Broadcasting Corporation reported.
His case was postponed to Feb. 24 after he made a brief appearance in the Mthatha Regional Court, BBC reported.
