ORANGE, Va. (AP) - James Madison’s Montpelier is undergoing repairs and getting a new exhibit.

The home built in the 1760s has had its doors closed to visitors since the first of the year to allow staff to fix up some plaster on the walls and deal with other maintenance issues.

Repairs include patching drywall, rewiring electrical outlets and replacing plumbing fixtures at the home that once belonged to the country’s fourth president.

The Daily Progress reports (https://bit.ly/1d7vPty) that staff members also are installing an exhibit focusing on the voluminous tomes of Madison’s library.

Montpelier will celebrate the exhibit’s grand opening on Presidents Day.

Known as the Father of the Constitution, Madison spent his childhood at Montpelier and retired there with first lady Dolley Madison in 1817 until his death in 1836.
