LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - The Empire State Winter Games have signed Hannaford Supermarkets as a presenting sponsor.

Organizers of the 2014 games, which begin Feb. 6 in Lake Placid, say the contribution from Hannaford marks the first major corporate partnership for the games since their transition to a private operation four years ago.

The Empire State Winter Games bring together more than 1,000 athletes from across New York state for four days of competition. Athletes will compete in a variety of sports and all age groups will be represented - from youth to masters.

The 34th edition of the winter games marks the fourth year the event has been privately hosted and funded by a diverse Adirondack Mountain regional coalition that includes five towns, as well as the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority.
