NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - A northern Vermont company has won a $21 million defense contract that will allow it to add 43 jobs in Newport.

Revision Military will supply 90,000 Advanced Combat Helmets to the Defense Logistics Agency.

Revision Military is one of only two qualified and approved suppliers for the helmet, the Caledonia Record reports (https://bit.ly/1aoDYKb ). The company announced the contract on Monday.

“Revision is proud to answer the U.S. military’s call for an additional 90,000 ACH helmets,” said CEO Jonathan Blanshay. “We’re a proven and dependable supplier having delivered over a million helmets from the Newport manufacturing facility.”

Last fall Revision laid off 23 employees, half of its workforce, at the Newport plant at the start of the federal government shutdown because of cuts to military spending and market uncertainty, officials said.

Revision has fulfilled a number of large-scale U.S. and international military helmet orders since Revision acquired the helmet manufacturing facility in 2012. Revision also manufacturers helmets and other equipment at the Revision Composite Center of Excellence in Montreal.
