SEATTLE (AP) - Burlington Northern Santa Fe says railroad tracks north of Seattle are safe for passenger trains.
Amtrak and Sound Transit Sounder commuter trains were put on a 48-hour safety moratorium after slides covered the tracks Sunday at two places near Everett and Mukilteo. Passengers were bused.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas (mel-OWN’-us) says crews have cleaned out ditches and geotechnical experts have declared that soggy slopes are now secure.
The moratorium was the first this winter. There were dozens on the Western Washington track last winter due to mudslides.
