NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected of wearing a mask when he set a fire inside a southwestern Michigan Walmart store before stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of electronics has killed himself in northern Indiana.
The St. Joseph County, Ind., sheriff’s department tells WDND-TV that 31-year-old James E. Turns fatally shot himself Tuesday night.
Berrien County, Mich., Undersheriff Chuck Heit says authorities got a tip that the arson and theft suspect was in Indiana. Heit says the man killed himself after fleeing police on foot in Granger, Ind.
Authorities say a masked man doused baby clothes with a flammable material and set it afire Sunday at a Walmart in Niles Township, about 20 miles south-southeast of Benton Harbor. They say he smashed a display case and stole several iPads.
