TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback honored two wounded soldiers from Fort Riley attending his annual State of the State address, praising their sacrifices and service to the nation.

Legislators and spectators in the House chamber stood Wednesday evening to give one of night’s longest ovations to Capt. Adam Cowan and Capt. Casey Wolfe.

Brownback says the soldiers’ example should inspire legislators and elected officials to rededicate themselves to serving Kansas residents.

The governor is proposing to increase state funding for veterans programs, including improvements to state veteran homes and the hiring of additional staff to help veterans acquire earned benefits.
