FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a man drowned after falling through thin ice while fishing alone on a private pond near Fort Wayne.

The Allen County coroner confirmed Wednesday that 50-year-old Mark Pusey of New Haven accidentally drowned.

An Indiana conservation officer says emergency workers found Pusey’s body in the pond Tuesday night about 20 minutes after he was reported missing. The death happened at a pond near Interstate 469 northeast of Fort Wayne.

Officer Patrick Heidenreich says Pusey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heidenreich says people shouldn’t venture onto ice that’s less than 4 inches thick or go onto ice when alone.

Despite the subzero temperatures across the state early last week, highs reached about 40 degrees over the weekend and Monday in Fort Wayne.
