SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert and five other governors discussed issues facing states during a meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
The governors serve as the executive committee of the National Governors Association. Their meeting at the White House with the president and Vice President Joe Biden lasted for about 90 minutes.
Herbert says Utah’s legal battles over same-sex marriage were not discussed.
Instead, Herbert told the Deseret News (https://bit.ly/Kjqzw5) that the group discussed energy, transportation, public-lands issues and health care and how those issues are playing out in states.
He says they also discussed a need for state flexibility and fewer federal regulations.
Herbert says seemed Obama “casual” and “less defensive” then he appeared at their last meeting about a year ago during a federal budget standoff.
